WPB v1.0 Dev SnapShot Banner

I've finally finished the redesign of the user interface for WPB. Unfortunately, I was unable to figure out how to get a multidimensional drop down menu to work so I settled for multiple drop down menus rather then waste any more time trying to figure it out. You can see the final UI design in the following screen shot...

WPB Development Continues

WoWPUGBuilder (WPB) development continues. In the latest version I've gone back and pretty much re-written the code for the drop down menus. I wanted the UI look and feel to be more in line with what a drop down menu should look like rather then a regular push button. As you can see from this screen shot...

I've been neglecting this site for the last few weeks but I have been busy. This week I finished up the beta version of WoWPUGBuilder. You can download the AddOn at the Curse Gaming website (also see the CurseForge webstie).

Of Slash Commands and Drop-down Menus

Drop Down Menus and Slash Commands banner graphic

This last week I was able to make some good headway (for the noob I am) on WoWPUGBuilder. I created my first two slash commands and a drop down menu. Creating the slash command was an easy task. I did, however, have some initial difficulites with creating the drop down menu. It ended up not wanting to play nicely with the UI I had designed so far. To fix the problem, I went back to the drawing board and simplified the graphics for the UI quite a bit. I conceded to using the same background and border that I had used with WoWPedometer.

AddOn Studio, WoWPUGBuilder Progress, & XML Woes

I have to start keeping in mind that if I miss one week of updating the blog here, that it's a months worth of real time that passes in between posts. I need to make a better effort of updating the blog at the end of each week rather then every two weeks of work, which is what it seems to be happening lately. So, to catch up on what was missed, I'm going to go over two topics, my quick review of WoW AddOn Studio and the current issue I am facing with my attempts at creating an interface in the AddOn's XML file.

WoWPUGBuilder: UI Implement Day

WoWPUGBuilder UI Implement Day Banner

This week I worked on implementing the WoWPUGBuilder user interface. This task was fairly easy with WoWPedometer. With WoWPUGBuilder it's going to be a little bit more complex. I hit my first two major stumbling block, configuring the frame to be movable, due to a typo while another involves finding the right graphic elements to use to construct the UI.

WoWPUGBuilder

Over the past couple of weeks I've been working on a new idea for a WoW AddOn that was inspired by my friend Andrew (aka Raski). He was asking me to make an AddOn that would let him keep track of player characters he meets in PUGs for dungeons and raids. Specifically, he was asking for a way to create a database of player character names, class, level, roles and notes, that he could refer to when looking to build a PUG. With this inspiration, the idea for WoWPUGBuilder was born.

Time Flies...

Wow! Has it really been since the June 4th since my last post? Time sure does fly, but that doesn't mean I haven't been busy. I am, however, going to make a little change in regards to my blog posting frequency. It takes me anywhere from 1 to 2 hours to write up and fully document my activities for just one blog post. That's a lot more work then I had originally anticipated. Ideally, I want to post updates after each day of working on projects, but that's clearly not realistic. Instead, I will be designating Fridays to post a week ending wrap up. I will continue to try and include more frequent updates but in smaller, more manageable bits.

Now that that's out of the way...

To the Drawing Board!

To the Drawing Board! Banner

As you can see from the graphic, I procured for myself a whiteboard. While I still believe in my trusty note/sketch book, using the whiteboard was a boon to my creativity. For the last couple of days I was brainstorming ideas for the new WoW AddOn that I wanted to start working on but I wasn't quite getting as far in the design as I had wanted to. I knew that I wanted to work on the Guild Alliance AddOn but I had no idea where to start. Earlier in the process I was writing down, in words, the ideas on functionality and the user interface..., but none of it was inspiring to me. It began to dawn on me that I needed a way to quickly jot down and "prototype" idea that were in my mind and it was then that I knew what the answer would be. So I hopped into my car and drove off to the nearest Staples.

Eureka! WoWPedometer!

Eureka! WoWPedometer

WoWPedometer is finally ready to be released into the wild! You can download your copy at http://5h0cktr00px0rz.org/?q=node/94. Some people have even suggested I make the AddOn available at Curse Gaming. I think they are silly but if I can, I will, just for the giggles. ;)
